A few years ago I got the opportunity to review an exceptional watch called Nixie Horizonte. As the name suggests this timepiece uses Nixie tube technology previously used in the Cold War era. Certainly, it isn’t the only Nixie watch available on the market. However, features like an oversized Grade 5 titanium rectangular case (measuring 57mm x 46mm x 15.5mm) and sapphire crystal make it one of the best on the market. This creation is the brainchild of Igor Gudiy who is a professionally trained engineer. Essentially this was his debut piece. Subsequently, he has developed his own brand called Titantimepiece and created several more sophisticated unique models. A great example can be found in the sophisticated GP Watch.
In numerous conversations with Igor Gudiy, he explained his fascination with vintage electronic technology. This inspired him to meticulously source LED indicator tubes, and radiation dosimeters from the 70-80s. Initially, these were used to create numerous prototypes. Once Igor was satisfied with the quality he registered the business name Titantimepiece in his country of residence Italy. At this stage, I reconnected with him and was delighted to discover the GP Watch.
At first glance, the GP is reminiscent of futuristic creations from brands such as MB&F, RJ Romain Jerome and Urwerk. However, instead of traditional mechanical watch movements, the GP is powered by an electronic quartz RTC chip. This characteristic is visibly showcased via a sapphire crystal window located on the face of the watch. However, my favourite feature is the dual red LED indications displaying hours and minutes. There is also a rechargeable battery, which increases sustainability. This is powered by a USB cable. In my opinion, this timepiece is a perfect marriage of style, functionality, and technology.
Aesthetically the GP Watch has a bold futuristic appearance with a touch of retro chic. For this model, Igor Gudiy opted to use Zirconium rather than titanium or steel. It’s an inspired choice because not only does this material have an exceptionally high corrosion resistance but also a touch of opulence. Ultimately, that is why it’s normally reserved for more Avant Garde brands like Hublot and MB&F. Dimensionally the GP Watch measures 50mm x 30mm, which makes it ideal for everyday use. However, you could even sport this watch with formal dinner attire if you wanted to create a cool retro impression.
As a perfect finale, the GP watch is presented on a refined full-grain black leather strap or industrial titanium bracelet.
